Conviviality engulfs you as soon you step to the holy land of Amritsar. So vigorous are the people and the air that surrounds you.
ਜੀ ਆਇਆਂ
ਨੂੰ!
(Welcome as always!)
The scent is in the
air! The Khets on the either side of the roads and the flavour they instil
makes one fall in love with the beauty of the city. Green is the colour and an
essence of purity it withholds. Formerly known as Ramdaspur (On the name of the
fourth Sikh guru, Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, the founder of the city), the “Golden
City” attracts a large number of tourists worldwide.
The city is an epitome
of pulchritude, added by the “Golden Temple” or well known as “Harmandir Sahib”
whose foundation was laid in 1577 A.D by the fourth Sikh guru. This shrine
portrays well fraternity and equality as is open to all the casts and creeds.
Day long “Langar” continues for the tourists from around the globe. The town
encompasses 29 gurudwaras each with significances.
The ‘to be known’ fact
about Amritsar portray well the beauty of Golden Temple, the gurudwara is wiped
with milk every night between 1 to 4 a.m.
The Jallianwala Bagh
memorial where the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre took place in the year 1919 is located
at a hand’s distance from the Golden Temple. The incident’s traits in the form
of bullet holes can be seen on the walls of the garden. The other sightseeing
includes Mata Temple and Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Another site
of attraction is the Wagah Border, the India-Pakistan Border which is open to
parade by 6:00 every evening.
And again when it comes
to tourism who’s not interested in the mouth-watering Punjabi dishes!
Punjab’s speciality,
“Makke di roti and sarso da saag” has always been a chartbuster. The food zones
around the gurudwara complex serves visitor with delights. The area nearby is a
shoppers stop providing head-to-toe accessories. When it comes to roaming
around, the city’s glory comes to sight itself. The zone around the gurudwara
has banned non-vegetarian items probably up to 1km of the surrounding.
So if you being one,
have to gaze to taste the taste of Amritsar!
And when being to
Punjab, a glass of Lassi complements your food like nothing ever can.
Enjoy with the folks
and folklores of the place and keep travelling! :D
