So the place we are talking about is SHIVPURI, which is
generally visited when one visits Gwalior or vice-versa. These two places go
hand-in-hand. Shivpuri is located in Central Indian State of northwest Madhya
Pradesh and is 121km away from Gwalior by road and 126km by railways.
The place has gracious landscape and is copious in deciduous
forests, which were the royal hunting grounds at the time of Mughal Period.
Wait, wait, wait, it's not all about the beautiful landscape.
It has some other attractive points which are enough to make your time splendid
and worth spending. So here are those:
A Perfect Paradigm for Artistry: CHHATRI
Chhatri is one of the popularly known monument, having two buildings facing each other. It was built in the memories of Madhav Rao and Maharani Sakhya Raje Scindia. The interior is in Hindu-Islamic architectural fusion style and have awful carvings on semi-transparent marbles. Ideal in evening as a singing troupe often performs in traditional attire.
Enjoy the tranquility of the place.
SAKHYA SAGAR LAKE & MADHAV NATIONAL PARK:
What can be more captivating than a lake surrounded by dense forest of Madhav National Park?? It is a man-made body and is a home for many reptiles and birds. To add on their tourists experience they have a boat club on the shores of the lake which has glass panels, being boating a good feature. Boat club is also known as sailing club. Some of the dwelling reptiles there are marsh crocodiles, Indian python and monitor lizard. Standing on the deck of boat club in dusk is simply a mesmerizing moment.
A Hidden Gem: SURVAYA KI GARHI:
Another alluring place in Shivpuri is SURVAYA KI GARHI which is known for Lord Shiva’s three temples, one monastery and a water source. It is situated 20kms from Shivpuri. Formerly a Hindu monastery taught yoga there but later on it was partially destroyed by Mughal chieftan to form a complex castle (garhi). Every year at the time of Mahashivratri a fair is held as lord shiva devotees come from around the world.
MADHAV NATIONAL PARK:
Madhav national park was named after Madhav Rao Scindia (Maharaja of Gwalior). It was set up in 1959. Best time to visit it is from June to March. One of the main reason behind the popularity of Madhav National Park is the tiger. Honestly this is a thrilling place for tiger zealots and wildlife patrons. Other inhabitants here include Jackal, striped hyenas, jungle cats, nilgais, purple sunbirds, golden orioles.
Pawa Waterfalls:
